Behind-the-Scenes Tour
: Have you ever wondered what goes on UPSTAIRS at the museum? We’re opening our 2nd floor for a special behind the scenes tour of our archival storage rooms. Purchase admission today: $5 per member, $10 per non-member. Participation limited to 12 people. > Contact us for tickets!
Note: Participants should be able to climb a flight of stairs and walk without assistance.

Painting on the Porch for Kids
: Children will receive instruction for painting with acrylics and take home their own creation on a 10x10 canvas. There may also be time for rock painting! Class will run 1-1/2 to 2 hours and conclude with a pizza treat. Ages 12 and older. $30 per painter (4 min/10 max painters) > Contact us for tickets!

Family Fun Fest at the Lake of the Red Cedars Museum:
Learn how to make ice cream, churn butter, play games like they did when the museum was a real four star resort, or just sit on the porch in one of our rockers and enjoy the afternoon. The Cedar Lake Historical Association is sponsoring its 5th Annual Family Fun Fest for all to enjoy themselves the way our grandparents, great-grandparents, and even some great-great-grandparents did along the shores of Cedar Lake. Funding provided by a grant from Legacy Foundation, Lake County’s community foundation.

Blue Star Museum Program

The Cedar Lake Historical Association’s Lake of the Red Cedars Museum is one of more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense.

Annual Election Meeting

The annual election of the Board of Governors and Officers of the Association by the membership will take place on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 2:30 PM in the Cedar Lake Town Hall meeting room.

All dues-paying members in good standing are entitled to one (1) vote at the Annual Election Meeting. Please contact us if you are unsure if your membership is currently active.

The Cedar Lake Historical Association Board of Governors generally meets the 4th Saturday of each month at 10:30 AM.

Archived Resources

John Hodson of the Kankakee Valley Historical Society kicked off our 2014 season with a fascinating presentation on the KVHS archaeological project in March. The Collier Lodge site, also known as Baum’s Bridge, is located on the southern border of Porter County, Indiana on the northern edge of the former Kankakee Marsh. Diane Sprehe presented an outstanding genealogy program at our September 2013 meeting. She has made her handout full of valuable links and resources available for everyone wishing to get started on building a family tree. Thank you Diane!
